Do you have a responsibility to send money back home?

We're asking this because there's been some astonishing figures published by the Economist that show that money sent back home accounted for fourteen percent of Bangladesh's entire national income. According to the magazine ex pats sent THIRTEEN BILLION POUNDS back to Bangladesh which is more than the entire Bangladeshi government spending on social programmes.

What do you think about this?

While it's obviously very good to send money back home to help people living in villages, is there a case that Asian communities living here, especially British Bangladeshis, could benefit from spending the money on themselves ?

Do you send money back home? Would it do more good to spend it here, we've got massive mortgages , what about your kid's education?

Do you feel you come under big pressure to send money back. Have you been asked to pay for a cousin's wedding or to send expensive goods back to India, Pakistan or Bangladesh? Is it your responsibility? Or are your relatives just taking advantage of your good nature?
