Many of those left on its doorstep had with them tokens from their mothers, forced to give up their children due to poverty or the stigma of illegitimacy.

Meanwhile, bargain hunters at the world-famous Portobello Road pick up an interesting collection of items, helped by experts James Braxton and Thomas Plant. But will they make any profit at auction?
