Kate Armitage - Dave Jackson, Helmut Lemke & Vymethoxy Redspiders
Please note Kate Armitage is unwell and unable to join us in Glasgow this weekend for Tectonics Festival. However, we’re very pleased that her collaborators Dave Jackson, Helmut Lemke, and Vymethoxy Redspiders will present her ideas in the Recital Room this weekend.
Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Kate Armitage's collaborators will perform a total of six improvised pieces across the Tectonics weekend. Most usually an improvisor, Kate is opposed to mystification of all kinds. Among her least favourite mystifications are the most deadly boring: “glamour, “talent” and “expertise”.
The Recital Room performances are based on the theme of instinctual liberation, and the denial of the reality principle! Really the only conversation worth having. Kate has chosenyour favourite outcasts as collaborators in this conversation to ensure that common sense is not allowed to establish a foothold.
Kate has Multiple Sclerosis and an acquired brain injury and so public performances are always a balancing act between comfort and action, asserting that “instrumental technique is a vicious rumour started by able-bodied folks. We must consider technique to be officially ended. We work on the other side of technique.”
Performances will take place in the Recital Room on Day 1 (15.30, 16.30, 19.00 & 22.00) and on Day 2 (15.30 & 19.15). Due to limited capacity, tickets will be first come, first served and must be reserved at the beginning of each day from the City Halls Box Office.
