The old-school skill behind those TV adverts for luxury cars
4 March 2019
An expensive, enigmatic machine snakes its way down a mountain road. A pair of eyebrows fill the rear-view mirror — handsome, confident. This is the language of the TV car advert and, by now, we all speak it.
Car companies spend hundreds of millions of pounds advertising their latest models during commercial breaks and YouTube pre-rolls, so it’s important they get it right.
Sav Akyüz is a London-based storyboard artist trusted by the likes of Audi, Toyota, Jaguar, Ford, Bentley and BMW to bring their latest automobiles to a large audience.
He recently turned his hand to illustrating children’s books, too, which is how he ended up explaining TV adverts for cars in front of a captive audience of schoolchildren.
