Julia catches up with her old friend Hilary and wishes her luck for her radio interview later in the day advocating children's rights, as the drama set in a Midlands medical centre continues. Julia tells her how proud her mother would have been, and Hilary says it's her "re-birth" day, 40 years to the day that her mother got her back.

Ìý

After the interview, Julia and Hilary meet up, and Hilary, who is blind, tells Julia that she believes her blindness was caused by her adoptive parents' neglect, and wants to find out for certain. But on confronting her adoptive mother, she discovers that it was actually her adoptive sister who caused her disability by shaking baby Hilary out of jealousy.

Ìý

Meanwhile, noticing Ruth's scalded head, Michelle is determined to get to the bottom of who did it and manages to gently prise some truth out of Ruth, who tries to defend Davey, saying he's just scared of her making new friends. Michelle makes her realise that this is abuse and not love, and urges her to leave, but Ruth says she can't.

Later Michelle tells Melody about Ruth and that, despite Melody's caution, she is adamant she needs to intervene.

Ìý

Julia is played by Diane Keen, Hilary by guest star Catherine Cusack, Michelle by Donnaleigh Bailey, Ruth by Selina Chilton and Melody by Elizabeth Bower.

When Young Nick's dad, Old Nick, the war hero, is tricked into selling a valuable war medal, Maurice and Syd vow to get it back, as William Ivory's action-packed comedy drama series continues.

Ìý

The job runs according to plan until Hedley refuses to break down a door. Instead, he tries to open a window which sets off the alarm, forcing the boys to abort their mission. When Maurice berates Hedley for his mistake, Hedley admits there's a problem. Helen is pregnant. He's going to be a dad. And he doesn't want to be in the gang any more. So, he's out.

Ìý

Maurice and Syd try to talk Hedley round, but he's adamant. He loves the gang and thinks that if he remains in it he'll be a liability. He's thrilled about becoming a father, but worries that he has nothing to offer the child.

Ìý

Maurice tells Syd it's a temporary wobble and they must do all they can to get him back on track. Syd says they should respect his wishes and accuses Maurice of harbouring some guilt about the way he acted when Barbara was pregnant.

Ìý

When Hedley sees some hoodies breaking into a car outside the pub, he assumes that their father must be absent or in prison, and worries that his child will grow up to be just like that. Determined to make a difference in the world, he signs up for a charity boxing match to raise money for the local community. While training him, Maurice and Syd engineer a meeting with Old Nick, thus prompting Hedley to come back on board to help him – though he swears this will be the last time...

Ìý

Ram John Holder (Desmonds) is Old Nick, Anthony Head is Maurice, Warren Clarke is Syd, Dean Lennox Kelly is Hedley and Jenny Agutter is Barbara.

Poppy's speed-dating night runs badly from the beginning as people pull out by the minute, in today's edition of the Australian drama series set in a beach resort. Desperate, and needing the event to be a success, Poppy convinces her friends to join in, not realising the consequences this may have. She is happy, however, when Stavva and Gabby arrive.

Ìý

Because of the uneven numbers, Stavva somehow convinces a depressed Addo to join in the revelry but then two more people call in sick. Poppy is left feeling desperate and forces Jarrod and Tracy to join in, but tells them they must pretend they are separated, which rubs salt into Tracy's wounds. She is still upset about finding out that Jarrod has kept the engagement ring which was meant to be for Bec. When Bec decides to join the game, her anxiety only grows.

Ìý

Tracy is not the only one unhappy about the night's activities. Paul warns Gabby that there will be trouble if any of the guys take a shine to her. With someone taking a special interest in Gabby's bubbly persona, Paul soon becomes an immature, jealous boyfriend.

Ìý

For Poppy, matters are made worse when an old school acquaintance, Jenna Wade, turns up. Realising that half the people involved are friends, she is suspicious from the beginning. Not only does she remember Stavva as the boy who never called, she gets blind drunk and tries her luck with just about anyone.

Ìý

When it looks like things can't get any worse, the friends then discover that one of the participants, Simone, is also a journalist – and she's not there to write about speed-dating. Having done her best to talk to everyone who may have been involved in the murder, it becomes obvious that she is going to write an article on Addo.

Ìý

The biggest breakthrough of the night, however, is that the photographer recognises Addo from a photo he took on the night of the murder...

Ìý

Poppy is played by Katherine Hicks, Stavva by Ryan Johnson, Gabby by Sophie Katinis, Addo by Daniel Henshall, Jarrod by Clayton Watson, Tracy by Charlotte Gregg, Bec by Renai Caruso, Paul by Nathaniel Buzolic, Jenna by Mariel McClory and Simone by Paula Arundell.
