³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Singers

The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Singers join Sir Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker to perform the choral version of Wolf 's Elfenlied and Brahms's Es tönt ein voller Harfenklang as emblematic prelude pieces to Mahler's Third Symphony.

Voices Now
25-27 March 2011, Roundhouse

London's Roundhouse plays host to some of the world's leading choirs, the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Singers among them, from 25-27 March 2011 as part of Voices Now. The festival, billed as a celebration of Britain's unique vocal heritage and vibrant contemporary singing culture, is set to unite singers of all abilities in performance and promote singing together. The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Singers will give concerts and workshops as part of Voices Now.

Come & Sing Rachmaninov's Vespers
31 October and 4 November 2010, St Paul's Knightsbridge

Rachmaninov's Vespers ranks among the greatest pieces for unaccompanied choir, though opportunities to sing the composer's demanding setting of the Russian Orthodox all-night vigil are usually reserved for professional groups or accomplished amateur chamber choirs.

The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Singers and Kaspars PutninÅ¡, conductor of the Latvian Radio Choir, offer members of the public a rare opportunity to Come & Sing Rachmaninov's Vespers on 31 October 2010.

The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Singers will also perform the complete work on 4 November at St Paul's Knightsbridge, to be broadcast live on Radio 3.

³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scottish Symphony Orchestra
Birthday Celebrations
2 December 2010, City Halls, Glasgow

The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scottish Symphony Orchestra came into being on 3 December 1935. To mark its 75th birthday, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two Scotland and Radio 3 broadcast live its celebratory concert.

Martyn Brabbins conducts the premiere of a new work by Helen Grime, commissioned by the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ for the occasion, while Nicola Benedetti joins the Orchestra as soloist in Beethoven's Violin Concerto.

To mark the occasion, Radio 3 will be devoting a week of Afternoon On 3 programmes to the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ SSO.

Talking Music
From 14 September 2010, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two Scotland

The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scottish Symphony Orchestra takes centre stage in a new four-part television series for the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ, Talking Music, as part of its Learning output. Each 30-minute episode explores the work and lives of the players, conductors, composers and soloists who work with the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ SSO.

The series will also be presented online as a dozen 10-minute films for teachers, students and music-lovers.

An Association of Artists

Chief conductor Donald Runnicles and principal guest conductor IlanVolkov are joined this season by two new team members, associate guest conductor Andrew Manze and the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Scottish Symphony Orchestra's first Artist In Association, NewYork-based composer and conductor Matthias Pintscher. In addition to Pintscher's exquisitely crafted compositions, the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ SSO's 2010/11 season also presents five world premiere performances of works by five Scottish composers, including James Dillon's epic sequence Nine Rivers on 14 November 2010.
