Big Babies is an innovative new 13-part comedy series combining live action, puppetry and CGI, starring two ten-month-old babies with the heads of grown men, which starts on Monday 15 March 2010 and airs Monday to Thursday on C³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ channel at 5.45pm.
Rocco gets dropped at Brooks' house every day by his mum and has a sunny and positive outlook on life, whereas his best friend, Brooks, is a tad more cynical and jaded, even at ten months.
The boys would happily sit and watch TV all day if Brooks' mum, Carole, didn't take them out for excursions in their double buggy. Trips to the park, the duck pond, the pet shop, or even just a drive in the car all provide the backdrop to a series of surreal, vibrant and outrageously funny adventures.
On these trips we meet the babies' playmates; fashionista baby Calais Savoy; hippy baby Daisy and the Gonch, "the coolest kid in town", who has always done everything cooler and bigger and better than Rocco and Brooks.
When the babies are away the toys on the nursery toyshelf come out to play – and that's when the trouble really starts. The shelf is led by Budge, a stuffed toy made by Brooks' Nan. He has a thing about biscuits and will do anything to get them, even if it ends up ruining Rocco and Brooks' day.
The programme is a collaboration between C³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Comedy and is the first time the two departments have worked together. Sharon Horgan (Pulling, Free Agents) acts as programme consultant on the series as well as providing the voice of Carole, Brooks' mum.
The combination of visual style, slapstick humour, and silly jokes create a distinctive tone. The babies' dialogue is filled with made-up comical put downs which the friends use to insult each other.
The juxtaposition of Martin and Spencer's heads, complete with silly knitted headgear, on the bodies of real babies creates a visual spectacle which will appeal to young and old alike.
Big Babies is executive produced by Jack Cheshire in ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Comedy and Japhet Asher at C³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ and is produced by Catherine Gosling Fuller.
Big Babies is the creation of comedy collective Broken Biscuits – led by writer/director Jon Riche and writer/performer Spencer Jones, who also stars as Brooks.
Martin Collins plays Rocco, Caroline May Jones stars as Calais Savoy, Chiron Miller as Daisy and Doc Brown voices Budge.
The main puppeteers are Johnny Sabbagh and Will Harper.
