Earth – The Biography
Ìý
The Epic Story of planet Earth is told in this new, landmark series.
Ìý
Earth – The Biography uses spectacular images, strong science
and compelling narration to highlight the major events that have
shaped our planet's history and allowed life to flourish since its
birth 4.6 billion years ago.
Ìý
Presented by Dr Iain Stewart (Journeys From The Centre Of The
Earth), each episode reveals a different force critical to the
development of Earth including volcanoes, the ocean, the
atmosphere and ice.
Ìý
The series follows Dr Iain's personal journey, from abseiling into
a lava lake in Ethiopia to cave diving in the caverns left by the
meteorite that wiped out the dinosaurs. He discovers how a
rainstorm lasted for thousands of years, how the Mediterranean
Sea once dried up and how the Earth could be unique within
the Universe.
Ìý
Earth – The Biography is an incredible history of disaster
and recovery.

Guilt Trip
Ìý
Guilt Trip takes lovers of luxury goods to see the real
ecological and human costs of their vices.
Ìý
In each episode, three members of the public, with their own
extraordinary obsession with luxury goods, are sent packing
on a potentially life-changing journey tracing their object of
desire back to its roots.
Ìý
Guilt trippers must first meet hard-line ethical expert Lucy
Siegle and a panel of activists, who devise a tailor-made
journey – their own personal guilt trip.
Ìý
The panel sends the guilt trippers into a new world –
designed to make them see the light. Alongside host Ashley
Hames, their trip will take them to far-flung corners of the
globe where they are shown the dark underside of their
luxuries, from the illegal gold mines of Ghana to the grim
sweatshops of India.
Ìý
But they also meet people who benefit
from their obsession: workers who would otherwise be
unemployed and communities that would be obliterated
without their Western purchase power.
Ìý
When the guilt trippers return from their two-week
journey they must face the panel – and a complex and
difficult decision.

Heston Blumenthal – In Search Of Perfection
Ìý
Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal returns for a
second series, applying his unique approach to transform and
revolutionise some of Britain's best-loved dishes.
Ìý
This time fish pie, baked Alaska, chilli con carne,
Peking duck, hamburgers, risotto, trifle and chicken tikka
massala are broken down to molecular level, then rebuilt
with Heston's inspired blend of science, gastronomy
and artistry.
Ìý
In his quest for perfection, Heston sources the best
ingredients and journeys across the globe to find
the roots of each dish and to research local
cooking and preparation techniques.
Ìý
Back in his lab, he puts what he's learnt to the test before
bringing the dishes to life in the kitchen.
Ìý
Along the way, viewers get a glimpse into the
mind of a culinary genius as he analyses every
component and ingredient to reveal how food
is far more than fuel: it feeds the senses,
stimulates emotions and can even evoke
the past.

Lead Balloon
Ìý
After a highly acclaimed first series which was premièred on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Four, Jack Dee returns as Rick Spleen on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two in a new series of Lead Balloon.
Ìý
As Rick will tell you, he's on his way up – his career is going from
strength to strength and he's never been so popular. In other
words, he's still the same old self-deluded liar, making a living
from corporate gigs, low-rent chat shows and hoping for a big
break.
Ìý
From the points on his driving licence to the shadowy hitman
he is convinced is on his tail, Rick's problems are always on
his mind – and almost always of his own making. And the
trickiest problem is how he can lie his way out of them...
Ìý
Rick also has to cope with a resignation from his evermorose
housekeeper, Magda (Anna Crilly); his
impecunious daughter, Sam (Antonia Campbell-Hughes),
and her boyfriend, Ben (Rasmus Hardiker), constantly
cadging money; and his wife, Mel (Raquel Cassidy),
bedridden with flu.
Ìý
Not to mention his quick-talking
American writing partner, Marty (Sean Power), and
the local café owner, Michael (Tony Gardner), whose
grasp on reality appears to be getting ever looser.
Ìý
All this, and a run-in with a children's entertainer
famous for his giant inflatable spanner...

Little Miss Jocelyn
Ìý
Following last year's highly successful debut on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ
Three, one-woman comic maelstrom Jocelyn Jee Esien
brings her unique brand of humour to ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two for a new
series of Little Miss Jocelyn.
Ìý
Written by Jocelyn (3 Non-Blondes), the show features a riot of sketches and some
familiar faces from the first series, including Jiffy, the over-zealous traffic warden,
and Mrs Omwukwopopo, still collecting husbands and still seeking marriage
guidance counselling.
Ìý
Adding to the anarchy is a host of new characters, from the gaggle of elderly
Jamaican women who enjoy nothing better than gatecrashing a good funeral to
Prince William's latest girlfriend, whom he meets on a diplomatic tour of the
Third World.
Ìý
With hidden camera stunts galore and the promise of an occasional celebrity
cameo, viewers had better watch out – the second series of Little Miss Jocelyn is
set to create even more havoc.

Long Way Down
Ìý
Three years after Ewan Mcgregor and
Charley Boorman circumnavigated the
globe on their motorcycles, the longtime
friends are taking to the road
again, but this time for ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two.
Ìý
They are undertaking one of the toughest of all overland
motorcycle journeys in this new documentary series,
starting at John O'Groats and travelling 15,000 miles
south through the gruelling terrain of the African
continent to their final destination – South Africa.
Ìý
A full online service allows people to follow the three month,
20-country summer adventure via
bbc.co.uk/longwaydown, leave comments and advice for
Ewan and Charley, access their travel blogs and view clips of
their exploits.
Ìý
The challenges faced by Ewan and Charley will be innumerable –
from navigating dangerous river crossings to pushing their bikes to
the limit on unpaved roads – but they will highlight the stuff these
men are made of as they meet each with boundless enthusiasm and an
indomitable spirit.

Louis Theroux – Under The Knife
Ìý
Louis Theroux travels to California, the
birthplace of plastic surgery. In this land
obsessed with beauty and self-image, just a
few thousand dollars and the flick of a knife
can turn people into whoever they want to be.
Ìý
Louis meets Eve, who is set to perform a complete makeover on
Laura. Following some initial advice about clothes, Laura's now
ready for "the next level": a boob job, brow lift and liposuction.
Sensing a bully at work, Louis wonders who’s really in control of
Laura's decisions.
Ìý
He also strips off to compare bodies with Kris, a 24-year-old DJ
who's forlorn; despite hours in the gym he cannot get the sixpack
he desires. It’s hurting his reputation with the "beautiful
people" so he resorts to lipo-sculpting – sucking out the fat
between his stomach muscles.
Ìý
Dr Linder is the boob-man of Beverly Hills. Cruising Rodeo Drive
with Louis, he points out all the breasts he's enlarged. It appears
he's tweaked most of LA!
