Big changes to evenings on Radio Ulster will be music to listeners' ears

After Midnight

成人快手 Radio Ulster is pleased to announce that from Monday 5 February, the station will be extending its listening hours to offer an even greater choice of programmes from top music experts who are sure to cater for even the most discerning musical palette.

The exciting new After Midnight strand on the station will be an essential place to find the station's best specialist music presenters bringing their passion and expertise to a late night audience.

The programmes will be broadcast from 12.05-1am throughout the week, with some new and some familiar voices bursting musical life into the dead of night.

From Monday through to Wednesday nights, listeners can tune into After Midnight with Donna Legge at 12.05am, who will be widening her musical net by offering Radio Ulster listeners music from the coolest contemporary artists, plenty of quality pop music, as well as the best album tracks and classic songs.

On Thursday nights at 12.05am, Radio Ulster listeners can hear After Midnight with Mickey Bradley. A music legend in his own right as one of the founding members of Londonderry group The Undertones, Mickey will bring some musical anarchy to the airwaves with his weekly punk music series.

On Friday nights at 12.05am it's After Midnight with Joe Lindsay, who'll be sifting through his rather extensive music collection where soul, hip-hop, funk rock, electronica, soundtracks and psychedelia come together for a Friday night of frenetic musical majesty.

And on Sunday evenings at 12.05am it's After Midnight with Linley Hamilton, in which the renowned Northern Ireland jazz musician will be showcasing contemporary and classic jazz and giving a nod to the big names while introducing the best in local jazz talent.

After Midnight with Donna Legge

From Monday 5 February, Donna Legge will be starting a new chapter in her career at Radio Ulster by presenting her own programme three nights a week with After Midnight with Donna Legge.

Music lover Donna, who has enjoyed ten colourful years presenting Across The Line, is casting her musical net into new waters on Radio Ulster for her new programme which she promises will be jampacked with the best in perfectly-formed pop music, contemporary artists and album tracks.

From Justin Timberlake to Razorlight and Nelly Furtado to Muse, if it's a good song, Donna will be playing it.

Donna, 33, says: "The new show is really for people like me who loved the alternative music scene in their teenage years and in their 20s, but have mellowed a little and widened the net as far as their taste goes. Hopefully people will like what we're doing and stay up that wee bit later to listen!

"Much as I love presenting Across the Line on 成人快手 Radio Ulster, after 10 years I do feel it's time to move on to new things. This new programme is still all about the music, and now that I've branched out on my own I can play even more of the music I love and which I'm sure 成人快手 Radio Ulster listeners will come to love if they don't already."

Other features on Donna's new solo programmes include Under the Influence, looking at how classic acts inspire new artists, and Hidden Gems, finding the best hidden album tracks.

Bangor-born and Cookstown-bred Donna was first bitten by the radio bug while studying psychology at Trinity College in Dublin when she produced and presented shows on the university's temporary radio station.

After graduating, Donna began a nine month work placement with an organisation working within the 成人快手, where duties included being a runner on a Gerry Anderson television programme and holding cue-cards for the Rickety Wheel on PK Tonight with Patrick Kielty.

When Donna's placement finished she worked around 成人快手 Northern Ireland for a few years before becoming a full-time presenter on Across The Line.

As well as ATL, Donna has presented the 成人快手 Radio 1 Evening Session from Northern Ireland for over six years, working alongside Colin Murray and then presenting solo.

She currently produces the John Daly Radio Show on Radio Ulster every Saturday for OJO Productions and is also working on the third series of ATL TV for 成人快手 TWO NI.

After Midnight with Mickey Bradley

On Thursday nights, Radio Ulster listeners can hear a bona fide musical hero on the airwaves as one of the founding members of Londonderry legends The Undertones, Mickey Bradley, will bring some musical anarchy to the airwaves with his weekly music series dedicated to punk rock classics.

From 12.05am-1am, After Midnight with Mickey Bradley will see the broadcaster and musician playing everything from the New York punk of The Ramones and The Heartbreakers through to the London scene of the Sex Pistols and The Clash, to the one hit wonders and the influential icons of the genre.

Mickey says: "This programme will be an unashamed wallow in the best punk records of 1977, before and beyond. Thirty years after they played, the influences and effect of bands like the Clash, Buzzcocks and the Sex Pistols are more widely felt than they were at the time.

"After Midnight with Mickey Bradley on Thursday nights will give 成人快手 Radio Ulster listeners the chance to hear those records and in turn, the records from the 1960s which paved the way for punk."

Mickey Bradley joined Northern Ireland's most famous punk rockers The Undertones in 1975 while at school. Mickey is bassist with the band, who are perhaps best known for their hit Teenage Kicks, which was famously John Peel's favourite song.

When the band originally split up in 1983, Mickey worked as a bicycle courier in London before returning to his native Londonderry in 1986, playing records on 成人快手 Radio Foyle before becoming a radio producer. Over the years, Mickey has produced everything from Hugo Duncan's outside broadcasts to political debates.

Mickey has been back with The Undertones for many years now and still plays with them sporadically. He is married with four children.

After Midnight with Joe Lindsay

Joe Lindsay is bringing his rather extensive record collection into the Radio Ulster studio for his new weekly Friday night programme After Midnight with Joe Lindsay.

For one non-stop hour every Friday Night, the incomparable Joe will be digging through his crates to bring plenty of addictive grooves to all those party people on their way out and the partied out people who have just arrived home.

Joe will be playing a kaleidoscopic mix of marvellous music where soul, hip-hop, funk rock, electronica, soundtracks and psychedelia sit comfortably together on the same bean bag.

From well known favourites to lesser known tracks to old school classics to tunes which are hot-off-the-press, Joe will be mixing music that's unforgettable, undiscovered, unpredictable and unmissable. There will also be text shout-outs as Joe effortlessly blends everything from Public Enemy and Peggy Lee to The Charlatans and Serge Gainsbourg.

Joe says: "If you are as bored as I am with clubs that play nothing but derivative house music, join me for an hour of your time. We'll wheel our way through a genreless mix of happiness. I'll bring the tunes, you bring the booze."

Joe, 35, has been with 成人快手 Northern Ireland for more than a decade now. He first cut his teeth on Across The Line and has presented a number of programmes for Radio Ulster. He can also presented numerous programmes for 成人快手 Northern Ireland including the popular travel programme Getaways and the current series of the magazine programme Inside Out.

Joe, who regularly DJs at clubs across Northern Ireland, spends most of his spare time painting art and shopping for vinyl records.

Joe studied at theatre, media and philosophy at the University of Ulster in Coleraine, although film enthusiast Joe dropped out of his media course after a row with his tutor about his beloved Star Wars.

After Midnight with Linley Hamilton

Top songs, interviews and all that jazz can be heard on Radio Ulster on Sunday nights with After Midnight with Linley Hamilton.

Respected Northern Ireland Jazz musician Linley Hamilton will be bringing his extensive knowledge of the genre to Radio Ulster with this new series which will offer listeners the very best in contemporary jazz music.

Linley says: "I'll be playing the best of jazz from the 1950s until today, featuring leading vocalists and instrumentalists from the mainstream and modern genre. The show is interested in how jazz has interacted with its environment since then, so we'll be looking at the likes of Steely Dan, Randy Crawford, US3 and Brand New Heavies, as well as those thought of more conventionally as 'jazzers'.

"Music is my passion, and I hope this comes through with the selection of tracks I make for the show."

Each week on After Midnight with Linley Hamilton there will be a featured artist slot, looking at the work of artists such as saxophonist Michael Brecker, pianist Stan Tracey and George Benson.

As well as weekly interviews featuring a wide range of respected figures within the jazz industry from home and abroad, Linley will be championing the best in local jazz and keeping listeners up to date with all the everincreasing jazz gigs taking place throughout Northern Ireland.

Linley, 41, is a celebrated trumpeter and has worked with many artists including Paul Brady, Foy Vance, Van Morrison, The Commitments, Andrew Strong, Juliet Turner, Brian Kennedy, Eleanor McEvoy, and Jacqui Dankworth among others.

Away from music, Wigan Rugby League and England Cricket team are Linley's two top sporting loves. He lives with his two pussy cats, Dukey and Dizzy.

After Midnight with Donna Legge, Monday-Wednesdays, 12.05-1am

After Midnight with Mickey Bradley, Thursdays, 12.05-1am

After Midnight with Jo Lindsay, Fridays, 12.05-1am
