Tom Brewer, a familiar and well-loved voice on Radio Oxford News, lies unconscious today in intensive care. It's thought he was the target of a deliberate attack. We go over now to our reporter, Louise Lane, at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Tom Brewer had been investigating the murder of Oxford Rovers star Warren Taylor and was en route back to the studio with his story when his car was engulfed by a huge fireball.

It was just after 7:30 this morning when eye witnesses saw Tom inexplicably lost control of his car and crashed headlong into a roadside barrier.

Police who've examined his vehicle have said that there appears to have been a problem with the brakes.

Tom received emergency first aid at the scene before being rushed to hospital. Doctors describe his condition as "critical". It is too early to say when - or even if - he will regain consciousness. The police investigation continues as questions are asked聟 who killed Warren Taylor? Who silenced Tom Brewer? And what was it that he was about to tell us?
