So,
here's what really happened. Two vicious, violent crimes.
First,
Warren Taylor. Nasty piece of work. Lots of people hated him.
But who had a reason to kill?
Fergus
Hackett did. He was involved in match-fixing and Warren was
about to expose him.
Lloyd
Lovell did. He thought, wrongly, that Warren was having an
affair with his wife.
Judith
Steele did. She thought Warren had killed her brother.
And
Delilah Morris-Piper did. She thought Warren was destroying
the club she loved.
Warren
was killed last Thursday night. We can rule out two of our
suspects immediately, because they have alibis. Fergus was
in his office, making a secret phone call. And Judith was
still at the post-match party, observed by young Harriet Pratt.
Delilah, Stephanie and Lloyd don't have alibis. For some of
the time when Warren was murdered, each of them was on their
own.
You
might think Delilah was too drunk to kill anybody. Or was
that just an act?
Of
course, Warren wasn't the only victim. Ace reporter Tom Brewer
was also badly hurt in this whole debacle. He was ready to
reveal who was involved in the match fixing. Ready perhaps
to reveal the identity of the murderer. But we all know what
happended to him.
Tom knew too much, he had to be stopped. The person who killed
Warren also had to shut him up. But who is it?
To
know, we have to remind ourselves exactly what happened the
night Warren was murdered. Shortly before his death, he persuaded
the security guard to turn off the CCTV cameras in the ground.
He was about to have a meeting with someone and didn't want
to be seen doing so. He was about to meet Tom and tell him
everything he knew about the match fixing. And that's what
he and Fergus were arguing about shortly before Warren's death.
Other
people overheard this argument between Warren and Fergus.
One of them was our murderer. Someone who ran the whole match
fixing operation. Someone Fergus and Warren both had many
phone calls with. Someone whose lost mobile phone gave Fergus
his alibi. But who is this person?
We
know already that it has to be one of three. The three with
no alibi. Lloyd, Stephanie or Delilah.
To
identtify our murderer, we need to consider the exact circumstances
in which Warren Taylor met his death. When Warren Taylor was
found dead, his T-shirt was pulled over his head. This meant
that he couldn't see what his attacker was doing and couldn't
defend himself against them. Whoever this person was, it was
clearly someone he trusted. A friend. He and Lloyd were enemies,
Delilah hated him. But Warren thought the killer liked him.
He didn't know what she was capable of.
Mr
Big, the match fixer, was in fact Stephanie Lovell. When she
thought that Warren was going to expose her to the press,
she murdered him. When she thought Tom had the story, she
paniced and tried to murder him. The guilty suspect was Stephanie.
