Transcript of the interview:

DI WYE: Mr Hackett, thank you for coming in to talk to us.
FH: Didn't get much bleeding choice, did I?
DI WYE: You're not under caution, just helping with our enquiries.
FH:None of it's anything to do with me. I told you that the other day. You lot want to spend a bit less time hassling innocent fellers like me and get out there and catch the murderer. Call yourself professional? You wouldn't last a minute in my business. Takes balls, I can tell you.
DI WYE: You're aware we're now investigating a second attack?
FH: Oho, that's yer little game, is it? You want to lay that at the door of the Rovers, too?
DI WYE: I simply want to establish your whereabouts at the time of Tom Brewer's crash.
FH: I spent the morning on the golf course. Wanted to clear my head. And I was with two high court judges and a junior minister for sporting excellence, if you don't believe me.
DI WYE: But you know Tom Brewer well?
FH: That little toe-rag. Probably drunk when he crashed. Did you check?
DI WYE: His car exploded. It had been booby-trapped.
FH: Oh aye? Well, journalist, isn't he? No shortage of enemies.
DI WYE: Well we can't ask him as he's in a coma. He claimed to have evidence of a scandal at Oxford Rovers.
FH: He would. Tom Brewer's got a very vivid imagination, Inspector. And did I mention he drinks?
DI WYE: So, there's no truth in his claim?
FH: Like everything else he ever claimed, it's total cobblers.
DI WYE: OK, we'll move on. Now, on the night of Warren Taylor's murder, you told PC Nabber you were in your office?
FH: That's right.
DI WYE: From where you called your wife?
FH: She'll back me up. When she gets back.
DI WYE: I gather she's gone abroad with her personal trainer?
FH: Nothing wrong with that. She has trouble with muscle spasms.
DI WYE: So I believe. I spoke to her this morning.
FH: You did?
DI WYE: They do have phones in Lanzarote, Mr Hackett. She was unable to confirm your story. In fact she said, "If Fergus thinks I'm going to lie to cover his flabby backside, he can forget it. I never spoke to him that night. Luiz and me was already on our way to the airport. I hadn't told Fergus I was leaving him. You couldn't do it for me, could you, pet?"
FH: Bitch.
DI WYE: We've checked your office phone records. You received one call from Tom Brewer聟
FH: That's right. Asking for an interview. I forgot all about it in the confusion. So what?
DI WYE: And you made one call to an unregistered mobile. We tried to ring that number, but got no response. Who did you talk to?
FH: Must have mis-dialled. I was trying to call my wife and I聟 I expect that's what happened.
DI WYE: There have been a lot of surprising results in Oxford Rovers games recently, haven't there?
FH: Don't see what that's got to do with anything. That's football. It's full of surprises.
DI WYE: A lot of odd results involving Warren Taylor.
FH: His form had been erratic, yes. I'd had words with him about it.
DI WYE: A man could've made good money on those results. Could've made a killing in fact?
FH: I wouldn't know.
DI WYE: What about that unregistered mobile, Mr Hackett? It's a number that turns up several times in your phone records over the last six months?
FH: I think I'd like to speak to a legal adviser, please.
