Andrew Bellamy
Andrew Bellamy

Andrew Bellamy, 22 from Cardiff. Spent three months of this year travelling in Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Bali with his girlfriend before commencing an MA in the Teaching and Practice of Creative writing. Trying his hand at short stories, playwriting and poetry and realising there's a lot of work to be done!

Waiting for the cars by Andrew Bellamy

They are chasing
the blossom
from the trees;
little sticks waving.

Each new
and gleeful thrust
brings fresh screams
and a petal shower.

鈥淭oo young to understand, poor things.鈥

Outside
the old house
the family
gathers.

The children's shrill laughs
rake them
as they wait for the cars.

The children call (pink-petal clad
and desirous
their display be not missed.)

Today sad
smiles must appease them.

Motor hum.
鈥楥丑颈濒诲谤别苍!'
Both drop
sticks
and rush to see.
The hearse is black
and strange to them.
Like fire-scorched trees they stand silently
and stare.
