Great Yarmouth route

The walk starts at The Jetty, just off Marine Parade, and covers around two and a half miles along public footpaths with some cobbled areas and a wooden jetty. The walk is accessible for wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs.

The walk takes a circular route and during the eight stages you can enjoy the experience through your mobile phone with characters from the past sharing their tales of Great Yarmouth's history.

Getting there

Getting there by train: Trains run from Norwich and Lowestoft to Great Yarmouth station.

It’s a 30-minute stroll from the train station to the walk’s starting point. Follow the signposts from the station to the seafront – then walk along the seafront until you reach the Flamingo Amusement Arcade, cross the road and cut through the car park and head straight to the Jetty Pier.

Travelling by car

From the A47 follow the signs to Great Yarmouth seafront. At the end of the A47, just after the Vauxhall Holiday Park, go straight over the first roundabout and then straight over at the next roundabout.

From here, go straight over at the set of lights and follow the road until you get to the lights at the junction of Temple Road and St Nicholas Road. Turn left into St Nicholas Road and go over at the lights into Euston Road. At the end of Euston Road turn right into North Drive and join Marine Parade.

The Flamingo is a seafront landmark

Getting the bus

It’s a 20-minute walk from Market Gates bus station to the walk’s starting point. If you’re travelling by bus to Great Yarmouth from Norwich or Lowestoft, get off at Market Gates at the top of Regent Road and head down this road to the seafront.

At the bottom of the road (opposite Britannia Pier) turn right and walk along the seafront until you reach the Flamingo Amusement Arcade, cross the road and cut through the car park and head straight to the jetty pier.

Car parks

The nearest pay-and-display car park is next to the Jetty. There are also car parks along the seafront opposite Zen Nightclub, at the Marina Centre, opposite Pleasure Beach Gardens, near the bowling greens on North Drive and by the Waterways also on North Drive.

Public information

The first aid point at the Jetty is staffed from May to September between 9.30am and 5.30pm on weekdays and Sundays, then between 10.30am and 5.30pm on Saturdays.
