Warwickshire Police said 197 fines will be handed out

Almost 200 drivers will be hit with £30 fines after parking on a road near a country park on what was the hottest day of the year in parts of the UK.

Police were called to reports of cars parking on the road and grass verges in Brinklow Road, near to Coombe Abbey Country Park, Warwickshire, on Sunday.

Warwickshire Police say the road has restrictions and has had a number of serious and fatal crashes.

The fixed penalty notices will be issued to 197 drivers, the force said.

Police said the warm weather meant visitor numbers were high and the car parks filled up quickly, which led to drivers parking on the road.

Officers attended and closed the entrance to the park at about 15:30 BST.

PC Stuart Baker, from Rugby Rural North Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "There are parking restrictions along this road, which is very fast and has had a number of serious and fatal collisions.

"We closed the entrance to prevent further vehicles getting in, and attempted to move on those who were trying to park along the Brinklow Road.

"We obtained evidence of 197 vehicles which were parked along the road in contravention of parking rules, and will now be working with the Central Ticket Office to issue fixed penalty notices to all of those drivers."
