Derbyshire Police officers are helping colleagues in Kent deal with Brexit issues, an MP has said.

Toby Perkins, Labour MP for Chesterfield, said they have been there in recent weeks to help with "public order issues in regard to Brexit lorry shipments".

He added he had been assured they are being paid in overtime so it is not affecting numbers on the street.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said: "This is part of an ongoing, national, mutual aid agreement between police forces."

She added they could not say how many officers were involved "for security reasons".

A dentist has been working on an intensive care ward to help out during the pandemic.

Ade Mosaku, a consultant in restorative dentistry based at Glenfield Hospital, joined other members of the dental team who also put themselves forward for redeployment at Leicester's hospitals.

It comes weeks after it was revealed more than 50 doctors were working as intensive care nurses to treat coronavirus patients amid rising pressures on hospitals across the country.

She said: "Despite the risks, I knew I needed to help the patients and staff with the biggest need and that was in adult intensive care."

Ms Mosaku, who has been working on the unit at Glenfield Hospital for the past four weeks, has been carrying out duties including recording observations, turning patients on to their front, and cleaning.

She said she has found the experience humbling, eye-opening and, at times, overwhelming.

She added: "It's been inspiring to see people from all over the hospital pull together to help our sickest patients when they need it most.

"If we've helped them [the team] or made their day a little easier by being there, then it’s a job well done."
