    A teenager convicted of a stabbing in Nottingham city centre will now be locked up after his original sentence was ruled too lenient.

    Edi Gomes, attacked his victim in Trinity Square on 8 March and left them needing stitches.

    The 18-year-old of Springhead Court, Nottingham, then aged 17, pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to wounding with intent and possessing a bladed article.

    Gomes was previously sentenced to an 18-month rehabilitation order which included 240 hours of unpaid work and a supervision requirement.

    The Court of Appeal today increased this to 18 months custody in a Young Offenders' Institution.

    Nottinghamshire Police chief constable Craig Guildford said after Gomes's original sentence in May he "felt exceptionally that a formal review should be sought".

    Supermarket chain Tesco has said high temperatures have led to refrigeration problems at a "handful" of stores across the country, including Beeston in Nottinghamshire and Wigston in Leicestershire.

    A spokesman said he could not say how many stores had been affected, but he hoped they would be running as normal by tomorrow.

    "We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this has caused," he said.

    Some supermarket customers across the region are facing empty shelves today after fridges and freezers are thought to have broken down in yesterday's heat.

    Tesco in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, was one of the stores affected and told a customer "the heat is causing the freezers in our stores to malfunction".

    They said engineers were working on the issue.

    Sainsbury's in Kimberley, Nottinghamshire (above), was also experiencing similar issues.

    The 15 cities that hosted Cricket World Cup matches have had a postbox painted white in celebration of England's success.

    During the women's tournament in 2017, several games were played in Leicester and Derby - while some games in this summer's men's tournament were held at Nottingham's Trent Bridge.

    The postboxes will remain white, with gold wicket detailing, for three months. They will then be repainted red and have a permanent plaque attached as a lasting tribute.

    It follows a decision by Royal Mail to paint several postboxes gold during the 2012 Olympics.

    A police officer has been bitten by a suspected drug dealer in Leicester.

    The officer posted on Facebook the 42-year-old was "trying to escape" arrest by biting.

    He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and assaulting an emergency worker.

    A phone, cash and suspected drugs were seized during the arrest on Charles Street yesterday.

    The arrested man has since been released on conditional bail.

    Debbie Hicks, from Leicester, has described returning home during yesterday's train chaos as "the worst travel experience I have ever had".

    The director of national charity Reading Agency is a regular commuter to and from London and said she arrived at St Pancras station at 21:00 to get her train home.

    "When I arrived, it was like Armageddon," she said.

    "There were people wandering around, nobody knew what was happening, and frontline staff were having to deal with a lot of very irate people."

    She eventually got on to a replacement bus service and into Leicester at 01:30 this morning.

    "It was almost like an end of the world type film where everyone’s wandering around and nobody knows what’s happening," she added.
