In Pictures: Bafta TV Awards 2012
Coronation Street was one of the early winners at the 2012 TV Bafta Awards. The ITV soap took the best soap and continuing drama award from last year's winner EastEnders.
Benedict Cumberbatch, who was nominated for Sherlock, was rooting for his co-stars Andrew Scott and Martin Freeman in the best supporting category. Scott eventually won for his role as arch nemesis Moriarty.
Ricky Gervais, with partner Jane Fallon, was hoping to pick up an eighth Bafta for An Idiot Abroad, but the best reality and constructed factual went to The Young Apprentice.
Emily Watson and Dominic West both said they had reservations about taking on roles in Appropriate Adult but were persuaded by the sensitive script.
Jennifer Saunders, who won best comedy performance for Absolutely Fabulous, said she was hopeful there would be a big screen version of the sitcom next year.
Channel 4's gritty drama This is England '88, which stars Vicky McClure and Joseph Gilgun, won best mini-series.
Artist and TV presenter Rolf Harris was awarded a Bafta Fellowship for his "outstanding and exceptional contribution to television".
Celebrity Juice, hosted by comic character Keith Lemon (c), received the YouTube audience award, which was last year won by The Only Way is Essex.
