Lime Street Firsts

The famous station roof
Lime Street Station, present day.

Liverpool has always been a city of firsts - many of which are to do with the railways:

The First passenger railway in the world was opened between Liverpool and Manchester.

People in the cafe in the station
Tomb
William Huskisson was the First man in the world to be killed by a railway passenger steam engine train at Parkside Station.

His Tomb is situated in the cemetary next to the Anglican Cathedral.

The First station to have iron arcades and to be covered with an overall roof covering the tracks.

The roof is still in place today.

Telegram Point The Post Office First sent letters by rail from Liverpool Lime Street.
