Pryce-Jones: Pioneer of the Mail Order Industry |

With about 10 million sheep in Wales, it’s not surprising that sheep farming is big business for the principality. The Cistercians were the first to pioneer the wool industry in Wales, which, by the 13th Century was to become one of the most important industries in Wales. Over the centuries advancing technology, machinery and transport links allowed the industry to expand, with Newtown, whose beginnings as a market town date to 1279, becoming a key player by the 19th Century. It was here that Pryce Pryce-Jones set up his own flannel business, selling the woollen cloths by post; and thus he founded the world’s first mail order business. More...
