The manager of the company was a very nice man named Mr. Thompson, who lived in Tynemouth. He had a nephew named Albert Stubbins who used to play professional football for Newcastle United and Liverpool, in the 1930's and 1940's.
In 1967 he was working as a sports writer for a local newspaper, and he was contacted by the manager of the Beatles. They were working on a new album, or an LP as we called them in those days, called Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The cover consisted of lots of photographs of people the Beatles admired, and being an ex-Liverpool footballer, Albert Stubbins came into that category, and permission was needed to include his photograph.
The letter he received and a copy of the proposed cover were brought into the office by Mr. Thompson for us to see. We were all really excited about it, the Beatles being very popular at the time. Permission was given and he appeared on that now famous cover.
