Forgotten Heroes: The 1820 Radical War

On Wednesday 30th August 1820, a crowd of some 20,000 people gathered on a fine day in Glasgow to witness the execution of one James Wilson from Strathaven, tried and convicted as a radical and a traitor. Glasgow was awash with government soldiers, as it had been for much of the year, and the execution ground was well guarded by a group from the Rifle Brigade, the 33rd Regiment and also a party from the 3rd Dragoon Guards.
