Boots on the march

Cemetery
Raunds Cemetery - burial place of George Roberts
© David Saint
Although George took no part in the strike and march, no doubt he reaped the benefits, but he stuck to his principles albeit at loggerheads with many of his fellow workers. Lawrence & Co, Bootmakers, continued to trade as a family business until 1939, when it was taken over by Bignells Ltd. It closed in 1960. There is now, not a single boot and shoe factory in Raunds.

George rests in peace somewhere in Ringstead’s cemetery along with the rest of the Roberts family.
