The fate of Richard III’s body |

By Bow Bridge in Leicester, a large stone plaque reads:
NEAR THIS SPOT LIE THE REMAINS OF RICHARD III THE LAST OF THE PLANTAGENETS 1485
But is this true? Was Benjamin Broadbent, the local business man who put up the plaque in 1856, certain that Richard III’s body lies nearby? The tale of the king’s final resting place reveals how a fictional local legend can easily become accepted as fact.

1 Peter Venables from Leicester! - 26 January 2004 "The local legend states that an old woman on the 21st August, seeing Richard strike his foot against the parapet of West Bridge, prophesied "Where he has struck his foot, there he shall strike his head".
