Marble Masters
Catholic churches being built at the end of the 19th century like the Holy Cross church in Ardoyne and Clonard church, in west Belfast, which has stunningly detailed marble work on all four walls, are beautiful examples of Italian workmanship.
Clonard church window © 成人快手 2003 | The inner entrance of Clonard Monastery bears the inscription 'Scala 1732 - Clonard 1897'. Scala is a village on the southern Italian coast, near Naples, set on the mountain slopes overlooking the Gulf of Salerno.
The sons of Alphonsus, a redemptorist congregation in Italy (The Redemptorists are a religious congregation of men founded in 1732, by Saint Alphonsus Liguori. Their mission is to spread the Gospel to the poor and most abandoned), were first introduced to the Catholics churches of Belfast, in 1872.
The famous Crown bar, in Belfast, which dates from 1826, currently in the care of the National Trust for its unique architectural heritage, is another example of an Italian labour of love.
The the ornate terazzo flooring is the the work of Italian craftsmen, who were originally hired to work on the ships being built at the Harland and Wolf shipyard, in the early 1900s.
