| On its completion the Westgate had an immediate impact on the city. The Lincolnshire Echo recorded an "air of excitement in the city in anticipation of a new supply of drinking water".
Due to its design, the Westgate operates a rather unusual cleaning method. A cleaning team is lowered into the tower in a dinghy and cleans the tank from top to bottom.
