An Englishman's house is his… water tower?

On its completion the Westgate had an immediate impact on the city. The Lincolnshire Echo recorded an "air of excitement in the city in anticipation of a new supply of drinking water".

Due to its design, the Westgate operates a rather unusual cleaning method. A cleaning team is lowered into the tower in a dinghy and cleans the tank from top to bottom.

Westgate water tower continues to have an impact on the city of Lincoln. It is still Lincoln's principle source of water and an imposing landmark, visible from miles away.
