Optimists take top prize in 2008

Optimists took the Prix D'Honneur with their Circus float at the 2008 Battle of Flowers while St Saviour were runners up with their theatre inspired entry.

The Optimists ClubÌý won the top award at the 2008 Battle of Flowers with their float Circus.

The Club were last year’s runners-up and overcame last minute problems with rotting flowers to take the Prix D’Honneur on Thursday, 14 August.

Circus, which was designed by Steve Bouchard, also picked up the award for best floral set piece for the elephant on the front of their float.

St Saviour claimed second place, the Prix d’Excellence, with their theatre inspired float called Curtain Call.

Curtain Call was also awarded the Best Costumed Award.

Trinity, who finished second behind St Saviour in Class 12, won the Grand Prix des Paroisses for the second year in a row with their My Fair Lady themed float.

They also won the much coveted Spectator's Award and the Agnes Pallot Memorial Trophy for the best two-dimensional floral work with their lady in the window.

Trinity Juniors topped Class Eight to win the Junior Exhibitors Award.

In 2008 the Grand Prix des Fleurs went to Jersey Young Farmer’s Chaos, which also picked up the Most Humorous Award and the San Remo Award for animation.

The Prix D’Honneur de Papier when to Peter Heath and Friends for Fun with Mr Men, while their junior entry Mr Greedy’s Ice Cream won the Prix d’Excellence de Papier.

The Prix de Merit went to Friends of Galaad with their Medieval Mayhem Entry.

The 2007 overall winner’s St Clement failed to pick up any awards at the 2008 parade with their surfing inspired float St Clement Five-O.
