James and William were two brothers born in Burford, near Tenbury Wells, who both lost their lives in World War I.

They had lived at Birch Hall Avenbury with their parents, Samuel and Lucy Turner, brother Tom and sister Emily, .

Tom had also joined up, but returned home wounded by shrapnel.

James was a Private in the South Wales Borderers 2nd Battalion, and died on the first day of the battle of the Somme, aged 29 years.

James is remembered on Thiepval Memorial to the 73,357 British and Commonwealth soldiers who died in that battle, and have no known grave.

William John Turner was a Private in the Northamptonshire Regiment 6th Battalion, and died aged 19 on 27 August 1918.

William is remembered at St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen.

Mandy also found that their sister Emily married, and that her daughter (their niece), is still alive.听

Amazingly it turned out that she was Audrey Corbett, a friend of Mandy's family.听
