The Falklands Conflict on 成人快手 Radio Solent

The invasion and eventual liberation of the Falklands was headline news in 1982. 成人快手 Radio Solent reported the events as they affected Hampshire service personnel and their families.

Throughout the invasion, the departure of the Task Force, conflict and homecomings, 成人快手 Radio Solent brought the crisis home to the countless service families on the South Coast.

When the invasion took place, the station was also quickly on a war footing with reports on the preparations around Portsmouth and Southampton docks as well as conveying the reactions of Falkland Islanders living in Hampshire.

Robin Worman presented emotional live outside broadcasts as the Task Force departed and was on board SS Canberra as she sailed back up Southampton Water after the conflict:

Interviewing on board

Broadcasting live from the Task Force

"I'd been reporting on naval matters for several years and it was remarkable to see ships, many of which were on the point of being scrapped, being restored and readied for war by workers, some of whom had redundancy notices in their back pockets.听 Whatever the rights and wrongs of the conflict, it was a real feat to get the Task Force together and win a war 8,000 miles away."听

As the fight to re-claim the Islands took place, the station broadcast the pooled reports sent back from 成人快手 correspondents Brian Hanrahan and Robert Fox.

For the families of service personnel, 成人快手 Radio Solent's programmes and link-ups with Task Force ships were a vital connection to loved ones in the South Atlantic.

"It was what local broadcasting was all about - it was live, it was immediate.听 A lot of families relied on us - they trusted what we said."
