Motherhood 鈥� longed-for or feared, inevitable or impossible 鈥� is the thread binding the devastating melodrama of Puccini鈥檚 one-act Suor Angelica to Strauss鈥檚 darkly ambiguous fable Die Frau ohne Schatten (鈥楾he Woman without a Shadow鈥�) each a battle for humanity and its future. Soprano Carolina Lo虂pez Moreno stars as Puccini鈥檚 tragic Sister Angelica, whose past conceals a terrible secret.
