Pontio: Dylan Thomas
‘My Friend Dylan Thomas’ draws to a spectacular close with a unique concert by Wales’s national symphony orchestra, broadcast live on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 3.
Grant Llewellyn conducts a rare performance of Daniel Jones’s Fourth Symphony, written 60 years ago in memory of his much missed friend and colleague, who had died the year before.
World-renowned baritone Roderick Williams sings Mark-Anthony Turnage’s cycle of Dylan Thomas songs When I Woke, and we present the world premiere of a new work for tape and orchestra by Andrew Lewis, incorporating Dylan’s own distinctive voice reading his poem ‘Fernhill’.
The programme is completed by a performance of Elgar’s final major work, his beautiful Cello Concerto, in which the orchestra is joined by the young Swansea-born cellist Thomas Carroll.
