Concert Information
成人快手 Philharmonic Chief Conductor Omer Meir Wellber is joined by German cellist Jan Vogler in Nottingham.
Vogler performs two rhapsodic works on Hebraic themes: Ernst Bloch鈥檚 Schelomo which evokes the meditations of King Solomon in music that鈥檚 both contemplative and seductive. We also hear Max Bruch鈥檚 Kol Nidrei, a beautiful prayer of repentance which helped to ensure that its composer became famous for more than just his First Violin Concerto.
The programme begins with Richard Strauss鈥檚 Till Eulenspiegel, the mischievous deeds and pratfalls of its antihero memorably rendered in Strauss鈥檚 brilliant orchestration. This irrepressible spirit is also felt in the relentless energy of Beethoven鈥檚 Seventh Symphony.
The rhythmic impulse of Beethoven鈥檚 writing can鈥檛 be contained, and the high-octane finale, complete with stratospheric horns, is truly wild, stomping joyfully through the orchestra.
