Brothers In Arms

A two-man blues/rock revolution, The Black Keys are singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Meeting at school but divided by social groupings, the soccer captain and social outcast started jamming and never looked back.

Debut album The Big Come Up was recorded in Carney's basement, and it's this lo-fi approach to making music which set them apart from their contemporaries. Extensive touring with Sleater-Kinney, Beck and Radiohead continued to build their reputation, gaining a strong following as well as mass critical acclaim, including love from our very own John Peel. Mainstream breakthrough happened in 2010 with the release of sixth album Brothers which won three Grammy Awards.

Regularly working with producer Dangermouse, The Keys are oft compared to The White Stripes for their sound which pulls shapes from gospel, soul and rock. Singles Lonely Boy, Tighten Up and Everlasting Light demonstrate the rough and gritty yet warm and fuzzy slices of dusty Americana which only The Black Keys could produce.
