For this afternoon’s concert, conductor Clemens Schuldt brings two Haydn symphonies and Bartók’s last work.
Composed in the final weeks of his life, Bartók’s Viola Concerto was left incomplete and in draft form at the time of his death. Finished by his close friend Tibor Serly in 1949, the final result delivers a remarkable range of expression – mixing smiling pastoral episodes with darkly fierce magic. ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ New Generation artist, Eivind Ringstad is today’s soloist.
It’s surrounded by two of Haydn’s most jovial symphonies: No. 61, with its theatrical finale, and No. 68, full of quirky eccentricities.
