An evening of 20th-century English music that looks beyond pastoral stereotypes. The nostalgic idyll of Vaughan Williams鈥檚 Fantasia on 鈥楪reensleeves鈥� is soon abandoned for the brutality of his Symphony No. 4 and Birtwistle鈥檚 Exody 鈥� a terrifying musical labyrinth. Walton鈥檚 much-loved Viola Concerto is played here by rising star and 成人快手 Radio 3 New Generation Artist Lise Berthaud.

Andrew Litton joins the 成人快手 Symphony Orchestra for an evening of 20th-century British music that looks beyond the pastoral stereotypes.

The idyll of Vaughan Williams鈥檚 Fantasia on 鈥楪reensleeves鈥� is soon abandoned in the composer鈥檚 dark and questioning Symphony No. 4 and Birtwistle鈥檚 Exody, an overwhelming musical labyrinth of sound.

This year鈥檚 composer focus on William Walton continues with his much-loved Viola Concerto 鈥� a work that had its premiere at the Proms, conducted by the composer and featuring composer and violist Paul Hindemith as soloist.
