Surfers in the Snow 2

Newquay's English Junior surf champion and British team member Lewis Clinton and his pro surfer brother Jack, who competes across Europe have swapped the waves for the snow, as they learn the art of snow-boarding. Each day they are keeping a diary.

Day 2 - by Jack Clinton

It started so well. Clear skies and we were on it early - despite having stayed up late to impress everyone at the hotel bar quiz (let's just say we didn't win the champagne).

By 11am, we'd made some progress on controlling our turns and speed and I had mastered the snowboarder's nightmare - the button lift. It's hard because you've got one foot out of your bindings, then you have to stick the button between your legs and re-balance before the thing yanks you away.

It takes quite a few face plants to get that right. Got in a bit of jump action, too. Shaped the side of the piste into a mini-kicker and managed some even bigger airs than yesterday. We even landed most of them.

Then the snow came in - again. Never thought we'd be sick of snow, but we are! Only because it limits what we can do on the mountain - mostly because when it's pelting it down, we can't see anything. Taking our goggles off was an error - they froze over.

So it was back to the comfort of our hotel - Les Hauts de Toviere -听 to thaw out. At lunchtime, we did an interview for Radio Cornwall - in the middle of a blizzard. The weather closed in for the afternoon. Lewis, who has decided he is dying of man flu, decided to go to bed for a few hours.

I went on a crazy walk around Tignes in the blizzard with Leigh, who's working with us here. The highlight of which was finding a car park that had been snowed in. As you'll see from the pictures, so much snow fell today that people who left their cars there in the morning won't be finding it easy to locate them tonight. It was like a car cemetery.

After the obligatory tasting of 'vin chaud' (mulled wine), it was back to the hotel to check if Lewis was still alive. He was - and getting friendly with MSN. Hopefully the man flu won't set it and we can have a full day on the hill tomorrow, when it's meant to be clearing up. Result!
