Make fresh pasta with Sienna
Make delicious fresh pasta with a cherry tomato sauce from scratch with chef Sienna. This recipe requires chopping and frying, so please make sure you have a grown-up with you to help out!
- 200g 00 flour (you can substitute with plain flour)
- 100ml water (room temperature)
- 300g fresh cherry tomatoes
- Fresh basil
- 1 clove of garlic
- Olive oil
- Parmesan
- Salt and pepper
Method for cavatelli pasta
Step one
Place your 00 flour into a large mixing bowl and use your finger to make a hole in the centre. Add your water a little at a time and with a clean hand, fold in the flour from the outside, until all the water is covered
听
Step two
Keep rolling the mixture in your hands until you have a ball of dough. If your dough becomes sticky add a little more flour, then split your dough into quarters
Step three
Sprinkle flour onto your work area, then use your hands to roll the dough into a sausage shape
听
Step four
Cut your sausage shaped dough into 1cm pieces. You can use the width of your index finger as a guide for this!
Step five
Using the edge of your thumb, push forward into the dough, curving it around your thumb. You are aiming to create a curl or cave like shape. (Cavatelli means hollow or cave in Italian)

Step six
With the help of a grown-up, place your pasta pieces into a saucepan of boiling water and cook for about three minutes.听 Once your pasta floats to the top of the pan it is only one minute away from being ready to serve!

Method for the fresh cherry tomato sauce
Step one
With the help of a grown-up,听slice your cherry tomatoes in half and put them on the side to be used later

Step two
With the help of a grown-up, heat up a splash of olive oil in a frying pan. Add the garlic clove and fry on a high heat until lightly browned, remove it with a wooden spoon and place it to the side
听
Step three
In the same pan, lower the heat to medium and add the cherry tomatoes, the fresh basil and the salt and pepper. Don't forget to give it a good stir!

Step four
Continue to cook your sauce on a medium heat for 2 minutes then lower the heat and let it simmer for another three minutes

Step five
Add your beautifully cooked cavatelli plus two tablespoons of the pasta water to your sauce. Add a sprinkle of grated parmesan and you are now ready to serve, bellisimo!
