Work begins on the new Bristol city centre development. The site clearance begins and the hoardings go up.
Demolition begins and highways work starts on Newfoundland Street. Spectrum building footbridge is dismantled and work begins on the foundations of the anchor store - which is eventually named as House of Fraser. The original name of the centre, Merchant's Quarter, is criticised by some groups who claim the name is offensive.
Demolition nears completion and Newfoundland Street is reduced to two lanes. The name Merchant's Quarter is dropped.
Traffic is switched over the new road system. Bond Street South realignment finished and new road scheme up and running.
Roadworks continue and new central reservation is built.
Work starts on steel frame for Cinema De Lux, work continues on concrete cores. Foundations complete.
Harvey Nichols tower floor slab pours start.
The new name for the centre is announced: Cabot Circus.
