From our reporters in Germany

In Munich for the opening game

mandeep_sanghera.gifMUNICH - Highlights so far included having a wander round the stunning Munich Stadium (where I will be later for the ), being treated to a song from the German national team and catching a glimpse of model ...

First the stadium - and after seeing it I can't wait for the opening match just to sample the atmosphere inside the place.

I was a bit dubious when I approached the but was totally impressed when I went inside.

There's plenty of room for fans in their seats and, with little space between the pitch and stands, it should create a more intense occasion at a stadium made solely with football in mind. And it changes colour too. I mean, what more do you want!!

Now on to Ms. Schiffer. She was being given a run-through of what her role will be at the opening ceremony. She was in her slacks but still didn't scrub up too shabbily...

There's a piece of the turf on the sidelines which rises to become a dug-out and, if my powers of perception are anything to go by, her part will include coming out of it.

The media got to watch the German team train for about 15 minutes later on and, if they're feeling any nerves ahead of the big game, it was hard to notice.

The players circled one of the backroom staff at the start of the session and gave him a rendition of 'Happy Birthday'. I think they should stick to football.

Auf Wiedersen

PS. I'm trying to learn the very basics of German to help me get by a little easier and, being a bit wary of the tips before I left, my intuition proved right.

I was told to say 'Ich liebe du' when meeting someone as it was another way of saying hello. Yeah right. It actually means 'I love you' so I'm glad I found out and saved myself from a whole heap of embarrassment.

I'm from the UK but I'm lucky enough to be living in Munich, the whole place is buzzing and more alive than I've ever seen it!

The Allianz Arena is a fantastic venue and deserves to start the tournament.

It doesn't matter if its Weissbier or Helles. Bavarian beer is the best in the World! I feel a month long hangover coming on.

Great blog. Germany is a fantastic country with great food and particularly the Wurst and Bier!! Enjoy it; I wish I was out there. I lived there for three years and it really annoys me when people slag Germany off. I love the Weissbeer, and if you are in the Koln area try a Kolsche!!

25 minutes into the commentary and we are already having to miss the opening ceremony (which I do want to watch) so that we can get a report on the England team (which I and many others watching in Scotland do NOT want to watch). When will 成人快手 realise that we want neutral commentators or Scottish ones, not the one-sided drivel we get from South of the Border?

As far as I know they require a passport to match it with the name on your ticket to avoid black marketing. The ticket is not valid without a passport.

what a great opening game for goals.. If the rest of the world cup is like this, this will be one fantastic tournament.. i think Germany will get better as they grow in confidence and Ballack returns - so don't write them off yet!!

Hello
First, my compliments on your well done, informative site & it's inclusion of Claudia Schiffer, whom I am an enormous fan of. Since ESPN chose to edit out the most important part of the opening game & ceremony, during it's evening replay on Friday,
which was the Claudia appearance, I was wondering in this day and age of video & web technology, if there is a way to download the Video segment featuring Claudia, from some site that may have it posted, so it could possibly be viewed in my computers' Windows Media Player? I'm obviously not a computer wizzard & wouldn't know the difference between a blog and a clog, or pea pod from an ipod (whatever that is); but it seems logical there should be a way to get such a widely seen clip(?) before it vanishes into oblivion.
If anyone knows, I would appreciate any info.
Meantime. Thanks & Best Wishes! Joe B
