World Cup 2006 Blog

From our reporters in Germany

Goooooal!

Here's the latest picture post from our guest contributor, sports photographer Ross Kinnaird of , who got a great snap of the second Sweden goal last night - red shirts woefully absent!

What makes a good goal picture? For me it's a bit like making a omelette. Eggs, cheese, onion and a little chilli. My perfect omelette! It's the same for a goal picture - there are four main ingredients and when you put them all together you have the "perfect" goal picture (not necessarily the perfect picture).
So, take:

RKinnaird_Getty_Larssongoal.jpg

one goalscorer (in this case Henrik Larsson of Sweden),

one goalkeeper, (Paul Robinson of England)
and then mix together with the two missing ingredients:
one ball (obviously)
And the other, which is often over-looked, but for me makes the picture complete, is
one goal post
The goal post helps us place the other ingredients in the right context. You can see that it's a goal and not just another missed chance.

did anyone else watch the replay of this in slow motion......espn camera angles never showed any touch or spin change on the ball after the throw in..........if correct, this means it was a throw-in score and cannot be a goal by rule.

He's obviusly talking about David Beckham.

Mark, to answer your question, Larrson managed to et a toe to it among all the bouncing - so yes, sadly, it was a legitimate goal.

You are incorrect Mark. The ball is clearly touched on by Larssons boot (studs actually) and is therefore a perfectly good goal.

However if you'd care to discuss the illegality of Crouch's goal against T&T (due to his foul on the defender) I'd be glad to oblige.

It is like Matrix. Bullet Goal Time, hyped it up. The keeper said, 'If only I got Neo to play for 4-10 goals straight, I bet that he can do it naturally. As for me, I'm having a bad day. OOOPs, there goes the ball inside the net behind me. Drat. Double Drat.

And what Dan Brown (The Da Vinci Code鈥檚 author) is going to say about such interpretation of The Holy Grail? :)
