Digital race

Before the conference broke up for a rather good lunch, one theme was emerging from the contributions from China and India.

What is becoming apparent is how the media in these countries is starting from a very different point to the West. The media doesn't have a legacy issue to do with, which is another way of saying that it is young and fresh.

This means that they seem better placed to take advantage of the changes the digital era is bringing, as they do not have to battle with a traditional way of doings things.

Moreover, it is becoming clear that some of the most interesting uses of technology may be coming out of places like Bangalore in India. If people in the country are going online via their mobiles, then new services and devices will need to be developed to meet their appetite for media on the go.

The challenge for the industrialised West is that it gets left behind as countries like India and China race ahead into the digital era.

It would be a revolution if all the media were to constrict themselves to reporting the news instead of trying to make it

I agree with the original poster, having the latest technology is fine but if your content is lacking then what's the point? As Svend Robinson once said,

"After you've had somebody say to you for the thousandth time, 鈥淗ow come we never hear about these issues in the media,鈥 you start to realize that the media itself is an issue."

As for as China & India is concerned they are way behind in any kind of luxry, no moral or financial obligation on any one to provide them easy access in media technology. Lucky to have media.
