Mackerel skies

I hope you had a nice weekend. I was in St. David's, Pembrokeshire on Saturday enjoying the sunshine down at Whitesands beach, which was packed with people surfing and body boarding.
On the way home I popped into the Roch summer fete and had a cream tea. I think they raised over £6000 which is a new record!
I'm always looking at the sky, even when I'm off duty and noticed a cloud pattern on Saturday that resembles the scales on a mackerel.
The clouds are called Altocumulus and there are various weather sayings associated with a mackerel sky:
'Mackerel sky, mackerel sky - never long wet, never long dry'
'Mare's tails and mackerel scales make lofty ships take in their sails'
If you see this cloud pattern expect a change in the weather over the next 12 to 24 hours and that was certainly true for Sunday which was wet.
The weather is better today but the changeable weather is set to continue this week.

More showers are expected tomorrow with rain later and on Wednesday. Some of the rain heavy with strong winds. Then on Thursday its back to sunshine and showers.
