Complaints, grumbles and strikes

Watch Chris's video diaries

Another fantastic day's weather. We arrive in west Wales, driving past St David's to White Sands beach.

Stunning - blue sea, blue sky, orange thing in the sky :0)

After the shock about Laverne not being able to make it for the day's filming and meeting Carly, we walked and walked and walked. Grumbles were already brewing among some of the group.

;0(

Then we gather with our expert, Sarah. We all wait for the task ahead. We wait and wait and before we get the nod - I turn a stone and find a SLOW WORM - legless lizard. Takes me back 35 years to slow worm racing back when I was a young 'un.

Not everybody is impressed by the baby slow worm and Kate (not for the only time today) backs away.

Iolo and Sarah then disclose the plan - insect gathering. Ace - back to my childhood again. But, when the teams are set, it quickly becomes clear that Kate, Carly and Lloyd are not happy.

So I dive in and Julie dives in but Kate sits down unwilling to do anything - except grumble and complain. I got the impression Kate was on strike :0)

We found some bugs & some crickets - which I believe saved the task for Lloyd :0)
He's a big fan of crickets - I think he used to catch them when he was a kid - just a couple of years ago!

Sarah had set traps and caught some big bugs - which prompted more scattering of the group as fear of bugs and spiders surfaces.

But, I LOVE IT and on undressing in the room later I discovered I had carried a shield bug home in my clothing. I don't want to think where it was hiding - but somewhere dark. It's a good thing it was on me and not on KATE ;0)

So on to part two. Back to Sarah's farm and a search for UK DUNG BEETLES - tiny little things that hide in COW POOH. Out come the disposable gloves and most of us are as happy as pigs as we dig in. But, needless to say not all. Guess who refused :0)

A great day for me - hope tomorrow is a better one for the unhappy section :0)
