This year's took place between the 27th and 30th of May, Simone Smith was there to catch the action.

The wrong directions, a wet map and a brand-new broken sat nav later - we parked up our pink eco car, after what felt like the longest drive in history, and arrived at Knockengorroch farm. Hurrah!

Instantly welcomed by smiling faces, green tea, several roaming sheep and a sunset to die for - I got the feeling that my first Knocken' weekend was going to be a belter.

Filled to the brim with live celtic music, fire-spinning, dancing bare feet, a cinema (classics including Labyrinth and The Goonies), acting workshops, arts and crafts, holistic therapies, wholesome home-made cooking - it was a glen of enchantment with an endless choice of things to do for the whole family.

Main stage highlights were The Treacherous Orchestra - firing up a feeling of Scottish euphoria with their electro-style folk melodies. Ska Cubano set free an ambience of rhythmic tropical bliss, and The Beat - wow! I was so lost in the music; I very nearly danced my leopard-print wellies off. Then Eat Static crammed the dance tent until the wee hours. On Saturday afternoon, delivered an energetic Balkan-flavoured set, and just before it, John proudly announced that he'd proposed to his girlfriend earlier that morning, and she'd said yes. For twenty minutes thereafter it felt like we were guests at their giant engagement party.

Other memorable moments were - dancing around the fire 'til the sun came up, a gigantic dog, skipping in the hay, group hugs and charming faces everywhere. A happy hippy pilgrimage, where in the future I'll look back and light up just thinking about it. And the pesto crepes and creamy toffee cake dessert satisfied my appetite with a vengeance - just the thing after a few ice cold beers in the fading sun.
