The first Eden Festival took place along the banks of the river in the Forest of Ae on 4-6 September 2009. Guest reporter Catriona Forrest was there to report on the action.

We parked our old banger in good company next to a fleet of clapped-out old cars and hand-knitted camper vans.

Festival organiser Adam told us from under his Viking helmet that there was no line-up available to prevent "extra printing on paper and stuff". The stages had chalk boards instead. Great idea, but thanks to this by the time we got there we'd already missed Eat Static.

The cheeky MC on the main stage kept up momentum, introducing a line-up including Shooglenifty, , Black Cat and System 7.

A scary white rabbit, lots of fairies and Little Bo Peep with a wriggling baby dressed as a sheep? Yes, it was fancy dress Saturday and time for silliness. Second-hand hats and tashes from a 'Tat for Tibet' stall made drinking difficult but dancing easier!

Ah, fantastic! Trance lords Eat Static playing on Sunday, at a worm-catching 6am. I didn't manage to either stay up or set my alarm to get up for a dance. Blast.

The festival's eco-energy systems didn't always work, but glow-sticks and luminous murals meant there was just enough light to dance to a tremendous set by .

Mud, mud, mud, but loads of hay meant the festival ground held out, and provided a slightly confusing surface to dance on.

The Levellers put on a straw-stomping show on Sunday, followed later by a laptop set by .

Highpoints? System 7 and a great vibe. Eden was organised chaos, but the most fun, friendly and informal festival of the year.

Lowpoints? Being stung on the behind by a wasp and some truly dreadful "shouting out" by whoever was on stage after midnight in the dance tent.

We trundled off to shouts of "see ya next year!" so fingers crossed for a re-run in 2010.
