Alison Faulkner
Alison Faulkner contacted us with her choices and the reasons behind them.
Alison selected the opening to the Sound of Music, "The Hills are alive..." and (Something Inside) So Strong by Labri Siffre.
Tell us your choices and you too could be on the show. Simply get in touch here.
When I heard Alison Faulkner's Inheritance Tracks, it touched a nerve - I found myself singing to "The Hills are alive..." - something I never do!! Then when So Strong by Labri Siffre was her next choice tears were tripping me. Thank her for this wonderful choice - I remembered memories that had been long forgotten.
Complain about this postI was listening with my wife on Saturday morning and the inheritance tracks moved us both to tears. Alison spoke so fondly of her childhood, the long car journeys driving her parents mad and the joy of the Sound of Music and then the very clever and totally unexpected subtle shift when she talked about the track she would pass on to the next generation, what a track and what a story.
We have two gay sons of whom we are both tremendously proud but coming from, I suspect, the same generation as Alison's parents we did find it hard to come to terms with because as she so rightly pointed out, our generation never talk about anything really.
Our sons and their partners have made us talk about things we'd normally never discuss and for that and so many other things we are both very grateful to them for having the courage to be open about who they are.
Complain about this postOn one of the October shows, you had a guest speaking about a book on public speaking who said there were tried and tested techniques for success. He said he had helped a woman with no previous experience and she received a standing ovation at her first attempt.
I was unable to take down the details of the guest or his book. Could you please send them to me.
Thanks, David Harris
PS, great show by the way.
