Lords vote for gay rights
This just in ...
The Lords have , by a margin of 3-1, to support the new Sexual Orientation Regulations, which will criminalise discrimination against gay people in the provision of goods and services. It's thought that the equality legislation, which came into force in Northern Ireland on 1 January 2007, will became law in England and Wales in April. About a thousand protestors rallied outside Parliament tonight, including gay campaigners and some Christian groups.

I give thanks to God and I am grateful that the politics of the UK have become so inclusive and progressive. It's just a shame that so much of the opposition to these new regulations was from my fellow Christians. The church is changing too, and one day the church will look back on their attitude today with shame, just as they look back on the bad old days of racism with shame.

What were the "gay campaigners" protesting about? Unless they were protesting about the protest...?
JK, did you see the TV news pictures? Ian Paisley led the "christian" protest! Can you imagine what it must have been like for some traditionalist church of england member to turn up to protest and find the Big Man was the speaker! You KNOW you're on the wrong side of a debate when Paisley's speaking on your team!
As for the day protestors: wouldn't you turn up for an anti-protest protest when you're faced by that gathering of medievalists?!

Could I suggest that the gay campaigners were there to show support for the legislation.
What were the christian groups protesting about? - Perhaps the legislation?

I am all the more happy at the outcome of the House of Lords debate because I seem to remember that in the Christian faith we traditionally are saddened by the image of Mary and Joseph being turned away from the inn in Bethlehem... But oh yes, I was forgetting, they weren't gay so they should have had a room.
