Friday 6 May 2011
Lots of Newsnight happening tonight on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two. We start at 7.30pm with Jeremy presenting a special programme on the verdict of the 7/7 London bombings inquest. Richard Watson will be presenting the main findings of the inquiry for us, which has formally ruled that the 52 people who died in the suicide attacks were unlawfully killed.
All throughout this week we've been hearing accounts from survivors and relatives of each of the attacks that took place that day in the capital and tonight we have the final film in that remarkable series, plus we'll be joined in the studio by some of the people who contributed to those films to discuss if the inquiry is going to provide some closure for them.
Then later, in a special hour-long programme at 10.30pm, we'll be analysing the results of the UK local, Welsh, Scottish and AV polls. Our political editor Michael Crick will bring us the latest on the AV result which is still coming in, and will be assessing where heavy losses for the Lib Dems in England, significant wins for the SNP in Scotland, and the Conservatives holding ground in England all leaves British politics.
David Grossman is in Bristol asking Lib Dem grassroots supporters how their party blew their big chance to get electoral reform, and what they should do now in coalition. Iain Watson reports from Edinburgh on the SNP's surge to Holyrood victory.
And we'll be joined by Danny Finkelstein, Olly Grender and Peter Hyman to chew over the events of the day.
Do join Jeremy at 1930 on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two, and then later Kirsty, who is at Holyrood, joins Jeremy at 2230 for the election special.

It is troubling enough that government, and its agencies, regards image-tampering as de rigueur, but to compound the practice with peculiarly SELECTIVE TERMINOLOGY, seems indicative of a deeper malaise.
1) The crucial photos of one of the 7/7 bombers were DEGRADED BEYOND EFFICACY. I am no computer whiz, but even I know that the easiest operation is to send an image from ones files, UNMOIFIED. The enigma is compounded in that the CROPPING of the 7/7 photos is CONSTANTLY REFERENCED when commenting on their DEGRADATION. This is bizarre. It has the USUAL obfuscation feel that surrounds all matters of 'Terrorism'.
2) In the 2010 election campaign, Dave spent a vast sum on a giant poster campaign employing a TOTALLY FALSE IMAGE of his face. Thereafter, across the media, the image was referred to as 'AIRBRUSHED'. Airbrushing is a softening, blurring of the original image, yet what was applied to Dave's face was PHOTO-SHOPPING: a change of aspect ratio, eye and lip parameters etc; A VISUAL FALSEHOOD. Why did media, universally, call it 'airbrushed'?
How incongruous that we get NO picture of Bin Laden. One could surely have been ‘CROPPED’ to look like the proverbial cat in a coal-hole, or ‘AIR-BRUSHED’ to come out looking like Lady GaGa.

Anyone who took the trouble to dissect AV, will have spotted that the claim of multiple counting was a fatuous, false, red herring that obscured the truth of DIFFERENTIALLY VALUED VOTES: there is no way that a second or third preference is of equal WEIGHT to a first preference. This valid complaint was not made.
But taking a hard look at FPTP, we immediately see that VOTES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DIFFERENTIALLY VALUED according to CONSTITUENCY SIZE, and Westminster has never corrected that anomaly (though we now have rumours).
So the referendum was a multifaceted charade. Dave won a discreditable victory, Nick a wooden spoon and the electorate the booby prize. Democracy, under the rule of (absent) law.

Thank heavens he did because what an achievement resulted from that life.
Where the ego stalks is in the removal of universal measures.
For instance, substituting 'obviously' and 'certainly' for 'clearly', substitutes a reference to the existence of reason and evidence, with a reference to an individual ability to perceive. Take out the 'I've-heard-of-Heisenberg-but-don't-actually-understand-his-principle-perception and you take out the ego. Put back the evidence and you remove the ego.
Sure, we can debate the evidence; we always have done. But that is far less retrograde than saying we don't actually need evidence because our perceptions are actually so actually clear we can actually do without it.

Nick Clegg has just imparted to Andrew Marr his intention to make Britain "ONE OF THE MOST CHILD FRIENDLY COUNTRIES IN EUROPE". By George he's got it - or has he?
Some years ago I was heard on radio to say: "The fundamental Human Right is to remain unconceived." I went on to assert that once that right has been violated, NO AMOUNT OF RESPECT AND DEDICATION CAN EVER FULLY REPAY. Hence, governance should put the highest priority on the emergence of competent parenting, WITHIN A CULTURE OF INTEGRITY IN ALL THINGS. Westminster, perversely, achieves precisely the opposite.
While Westminster endures, as an integrity-free zone, Mammon will trump Mother, Bottle will beat Brest, School will outscore Security, Career will conquer Caress, Parenting will go progressively to Pot and Nicks Boast will Bomb.
ON THIS ONE SUBJECT THERE CAN NEVER BE NUFF SED!

The 'NO Campaign' (a nebulous entity just like 'Terror', with which - post St Tony - we are at war, is completely OUTSIDE THE LAW. Hence, although 'it' issued a stream of lies and deceptions, which under ELECTION law (Representation of the people Act 115) would be deemed 'undue influence' through a 'false instrument', as the law stands, the 'NO Campaign' is unassailable, and its functionaries will not even be challenged.
There you go Nick. Perhaps that example should be taught to children, as a way to behave when they grow up. (#58)
CHILD-FRIENDLY BRITAIN - HURRAH!

Dr "They had their own knowledgeS"
Dawkins "Yes, but they were wrong!!"

Dr "The Bible is still relevant because it is the origins of Western Civilisation."
Dawkins (not to camera) "That's true".

Conspiracy theorist, Barack Obama, says Pakistan colluded with Osama bin Laden.
That would be to countenance a state conspiring with terrorists!
With ideas like that in his head, he will soon be saying that 9/11 was a joint venture between America's leadership, and terrorists. How silly is that?
