On the topic of being off-topic

Graham Smith | 09:31 UK time, Tuesday, 2 November 2010

Some blog comments stray signficantly off the subject of the original post. The House Rules are clear and designed to promote discussion and debate - not censorship.

Using the same thread as Peter has mentioned both my comment Number 3 and Youngcornwall comment 4 were on show all yesterday then disappeared with dozens of what we shall call "the majorities opinion", until now. Reading them again I feel both stay on topic with the organic nature of comments, my own comment is very honest and heart felt and my intention was to explain how I came to turn my back on nationalism not ridicule anyone, the comment is there for all to read now. Why was this removed?

Every thread I have read is sent off topic by a few nationalists who never have comments removed and drag the debate down, which on other forums might encourage good debate, but the general attitude of these so called Cornish people is demeaning, it deflects debate into the intended brawl they wish to start, trembath has been stalking people for weeks with endless personal attacks almost refusing to quote on topic, they feel they are allowed to "talk down to people".

Putting two and two together (subjects) I now see how this has happened but please stop the antics of these people trolling, much of the later comments were said in frustration at what remained and peoples feeling that the moderation was biased, which it honestly felt like it was. People should not be talking down to other forum members as the nationalists do and be allowed to make claims which do not reflect any of the comments made prior as is often the case. All tactics to hide comments that correct with facts of how Cornwall is in the real world

Taking the same thread as the 2 posters above, may I point out that the very first post was a direct attack on "Nationalists", when the topic of the thread was about the actual bill, the voting record of the Cornish MP's, and the fact that the bill needs more time to be properly debated. But hey, any excuse for a good old off topic rant.
It then develops into the usual arguments where certain posters continue to ignore the topic, and use the thread to claim that those protesting against the bill are wrong etc etc etc, despite the fact that there are other threads that address the topic of the objection to aspects of the bill, and to the campaign against one of the possible outcomes of this bill.
Now, on a thread that is basically asking the contributors to this blog to keep to the topic of the original post, we have 2 posters attempting to justify their off topic posts, whilst continuing with their agenda of "nat bashing".
As for Mr. Jacks accusation of my "stalking people for weeks with endless personal attacks", may I just point out that is not only off topic, but completely untrue.

What a big surprise the extremist fighting remain containing the same words no doubt used to remove other comments and yet as if by magic they will return later

Joke, given the topic of the thread

Perhaps nobody has pressed the complain button Peter. After all, it really one makes one section of the community look silly, they clearly fear us, because they keep moaning.

I am yet to Rialobran make a positive comment without a smug remark

The fact that your "facts" about Cornish history were not exactly on topic for a thread about someone giving up a hunger strike is irrelevant I suppose?
If one were to look back through past threads, they would be amazed by the number of them that started out by having absolutely no connection to Cornish Nationalism, that have been very quickly turned, by the usual suspects, into a "nat bashing" exercise. Whilst such behaviour may well be the topic that the Anti-nats wish to pursue, it is the post at the top of the thread, made by Graham Smith, who's blog this is, that contains the actual topic of the thread. In fact, one only has to look at this thread, a thread requesting that posters stay on topic, to see that the usual suspects are attempting to turn it into a thread about how bad the nats are, how they continually post off topic, and how it is all their fault. To quote a poster from another site, "You couldn't make it up".

What a lovely sweeping statement (completely off topic of course, but it is what we have come to expect from it's composer). Confusing though, as in the post you quote from, I see no abusive language, or any cussing, perhaps you would care to indicate where such things occurred?
However, I feel it necessary to point out that the "Anti-nats" have been far more guilty, of abusive language and cussing, it is they who fear open debate, by refusing to "moot" with those who hold differing opinions to theirs.

    Oops sounds about right

Going on what Rob has said there is no such thing as a Nat, you cant have your cake and eat it, you either want a nation or you do not and I asked Peter a question which reflected Cornish history which is very much part of the subject, Trembath your failure to make that connection and endlessly grumble is driving away sensible debate, nothing anyone will say will change what you think and few are willing to listen to you, given your track record and negative debating style why bother?

Nobody can be anti-nat if there is no such thing as Nat – FACT, and if there was of course people could be against it, in fact the majority clearly are.
