Lau Blog Part 1 - by Martin Green

Mike Harding | 15:58 UK time, Wednesday, 4 March 2009

-
winners of the Best Group award at the 2008 and 2009 ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio 2 Folk Awards -
are my guest bloggers this week.

Their new album is brilliant and you can hear all three - Kris Drever, Martin Green and Aidan O'Rourke - talking about it on my programme in two weeks time, on Wednesday 18 March. In the meantime - have a read:

Martin Green of writes:

You join Lau steaming up the M6, the glorious sunshine of The Midlands has faded and the familiar grey drizzle of Scotland lies before us. The first stint of the spring tour is complete and we're happy as sandboys, mainly because we played most of the stuff from the new album, Arc Light, and it didn't descend into total chaos (no more than usual anyway) in a
public arena.

A couple of sold-out gigs in the north of England were a great way to start, Leeds' Brudenel Social Club being a particular humdinger. More about these events later...

The year started with a big old juggernaut style blast at Celtic Connections in Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket, on a double bill with the tremendous Irish outfit .

Around a thousand people packed in to stand and watch two primarily instrumental folk
acts in a big rock'n'roll venue. The world's gone mad.

Anyhoo, aside from that gig this was our first foray of the year and involved us getting together the night before leaving for Leeds to sign 500 CDs. This seemed like a good ploy to shift some of the many, many boxes of CDs in the doorways of our homes, so we all meet up to sign the CDs....album cover is jet black....one quick trip to the silver pen shop later, and we're rockin.

So, we all sat and got hand cramp while watching Manchester Utd draw 0-0 with Inter Milan.

Fabulous, I'm sure you'll all agree.

(Arc Light comes out on 30 March).

  • Comment number 1.

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing/hearing you all at The Mac when you did the joint tour with Faustus.

Now am really looking forward to another live performance again, but a lot nearer to home this time, at Shrewsbury Folk Festival in August - keep a good stock of those silver pens for your ensconcement in the CD signing tent!

Have yourselves a great Spring and Summer touring.
